Nitrogen
Nitrogen (N₂) is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, non-toxic, and largely inert gas. Unlike oxygen, it does not support combustion, making it ideal for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
Gaseous Nitrogen is widely used for purging, pressure transfer, mixing, and blanketing, where it protects oxygen-sensitive materials from air, moisture, degradation, and contamination. It is also commonly used as an assist gas in laser cutting and for inflating aircraft tyres, helping to minimise pressure changes caused by temperature fluctuations.
In the food industry, Nitrogen acts as a cryogenic agent for cooling, chilling, and freezing, and is extensively used in food packaging to reduce oxidation, prevent discolouration, prolong shelf life, and preserve product integrity.
