Acetylene

Because we do it right

Acetylene is a hydrocarbon and the simplest alkyne, with the chemical formula C₂H₂. It is a colourless, highly combustible gas with a distinctive odour and is widely used in industrial cutting and welding applications.

To ensure safe storage and stable performance, Acetylene is dissolved in liquid acetone within the cylinder. The acetone stabilises the gas, preventing it from becoming reactive under pressure.

An Acetylene cylinder is constructed with a steel shell containing a porous mass, which acts as a critical safety feature. The acetylene–acetone solution is absorbed into this porous material, helping to slow down gas decomposition and significantly reduce the risk of hazardous incidents.

Due to its properties, Acetylene must only be handled once all safety measures are in place. Cylinders should be stored upright, kept away from heat sources, and handled with extreme care. Acetylene is highly flammable and can ignite even in the absence of air, making strict adherence to safety guidelines essential.
